What is a BS in Exercise Science degree?

Students in our BS in Exercise Science program explore the complexities of health, wellness, and sport through innovative teaching, hands-on learning, and meaningful community engagement. You'll learn the foundational scientific principles relating to health, exercise, and wellbeing. 

Choose between two tracks: pre-health science, and performance and fitness, and earn a degree that is tailored to your career goals.

3+2.5 in Physical Therapy

Earn your BS in Exercise Science and Doctor of Physical Therapy in five-and-a-half years with our 3+2.5 program.

Earn your certification in personal training (CPT), strength and conditioning (CSCS) or exercise physiology (EPC, ACSM-EP).

What you’ll learn in your BS in Exercise Science program

Learn the adaptations that occur during and in response to exercise and human movement through a broad-based study of biology, chemistry, physics, anatomy and physiology. Advanced courses include human movement, exercise physiology and scientific research.

  • Apply kinesiology terminology, concepts, and theories necessary to professional practices and advanced study
  • Evaluate and critique scientific literature to identify appropriate evidence-based practices in exercise science
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills required to assess human health and performance and prescribe appropriate exercise and health practices
  • Design and implement exercise and sport testing, prescription, and best practices with sensitivity to individually diverse factors within a real-world setting.
