The Center for Teaching Excellence in Cybersecurity Industry Advisory Board connects St. Ambrose University's cybersecurity program with professionals working in cybersecurity, information technology, risk management, and related fields. The Board provides industry perspective and guidance to help ensure that cybersecurity education remains current, relevant, and responsive to evolving workforce needs.

The Advisory Board provides input in areas such as cybersecurity curriculum, emerging technologies and threats, industry trends, workforce needs, student preparation, professional development, and opportunities for collaboration between St. Ambrose University and industry.

Meeting Schedule

The Cybersecurity Industry Advisory Board will meet at least annually, with additional meetings or consultations scheduled as needed.

Advisory Board Documentation

As meetings are held, this section will provide documentation related to Advisory Board activities, which may include:

• Recommendations provided to the cybersecurity program
• Follow-up actions or curriculum/program improvements resulting from Advisory Board feedback
• As the Board continues to develop, additional cybersecurity and technology professionals may be added to broaden industry representation.

Cybersecurity students at St. Ambrose University have opportunities to extend their learning beyond the classroom through student organizations, engagement with industry professionals, internships and career development, and faculty-guided research.

IEEE Student Branch

Students may participate in the St. Ambrose University IEEE Student Branch, which provides opportunities for students interested in computing, engineering, cybersecurity, and technology to connect with peers and participate in professional and technical activities.

Industry and Cybersecurity Guest Speakers

Students have opportunities to engage directly with professionals working in cybersecurity and related fields. Recent guest speakers have included professionals from John Deere, RSM, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), providing students with perspectives on cybersecurity careers, industry practices, emerging threats, and professional opportunities.

Internships and Career Engagement

Students have access to internship opportunities, career counseling, employer connections, job-search assistance, Handshake, and other professional development resources through the St. Ambrose University Academic and Career Planning Center.

Student Research and Independent Study

Students have opportunities to participate in faculty-guided cybersecurity research, independent study, and applied research projects. Current research opportunities include work involving digital forensics and anti-forensics, with student research and resources available through the Anti-Forensics Research Hub.

St. Ambrose University's Email Policy establishes expectations for appropriate use of University email and addresses prohibited activities involving malicious, unlawful, or fraudulent email and attempts to compromise accounts or information.

St. Ambrose University Information Technology provides instructions for receiving and accessing secure email when protected or sensitive information is transmitted electronically.

Students are encouraged to expand their cybersecurity knowledge and technical skills through competitions, hands-on challenges, career development opportunities, and resources available through the broader cybersecurity education community.

National Cyber League (NCL)

The National Cyber League provides college students with a virtual, learning-centered cybersecurity competition featuring real-world challenges in areas such as digital forensics, network security, password cracking, web application security, open-source intelligence, and vulnerability assessment. Students can participate in practice, individual, and team competitions and receive a Scouting Report documenting their demonstrated cybersecurity skills.

CAE Cyber Competitions Atlas

The CAE Cyber Competitions Atlas provides students with a searchable directory of cybersecurity competitions and challenges. Students can use the resource to identify competitions that match their interests, experience levels, and cybersecurity skills.

NCAE Cyber Games

NCAE Cyber Games is a college-level cybersecurity competition designed especially for students who are newer to cybersecurity competitions or hackathons. The program provides students with an opportunity to build hands-on skills in a supportive competitive environment.

U.S. Cyber Challenge and Cyber Quests

The U.S. Cyber Challenge provides online Cyber Quests that allow students to test and demonstrate cybersecurity knowledge in a variety of information security areas. Cyber Quests can also serve as a pathway to advanced cybersecurity training opportunities through U.S. Cyber Challenge programs.

CAE Community Student Resources

The CAE in Cybersecurity Community provides college students with access to cybersecurity competitions, career exploration resources, virtual career fairs, scholarship opportunities, and other professional development resources designed to support students preparing for cybersecurity careers.
