The entry-level occupational therapy doctoral degree program at St. Ambrose University is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). (See contact information below.) Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR). All states also require licensure in order to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination. Note that a felony conviction may affect a graduate's ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure. At the completion of the DPT program, graduates are eligible to apply for licensure in any state and sit for the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy. Once a passing score on the NPTE is achieved along with all state level requirements, a physical therapy license will be issued to the graduate.

St. Ambrose University Residency Program in Pediatric Physical Therapy has been granted candidacy status by the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education. Candidacy status signifies satisfactory progress toward accreditation. Achieving candidacy status is not an indication that ABPTRFE will grant initial accreditation. Participants who graduate from a program in candidacy status are not deemed to have completed an accredited program.
